Making a model for a new design

Model project desk

I usually provide drawings of a desk design to a client.  Some clients find drawings don't quite work for them and prefer to see a model, so I build one.

The above example is 1/6th scale and the adjustable shelves can be moved just as they can in the full sized desk.

Basswood works well for models.  The plain surface shows off the shapes and proportions of the desk elements well.

As the model is built it also helps show the structure of the desk.  In the above example a strengthening strut to support shelving is dovetailed into place.
